What's Not To Love About Rozanne?
If you’re looking for a carefree perennial that blooms all summer long, look no further than Geranium ‘Gerwat’ Rozanne. Rozanne is a low growing, front-of-the-border stunner that shines whether she’s in bloom or not.
Rozanne is a mounding and spreading, but never invasive, beauty. Purple saucer-shaped flowers cover this plant all summer long. Rozanne thrives in full sun or partial shade and tolerates a wide variety of soil types. Rozanne is hardy in zones 5 -8 and grows to about 18″ tall and spreads to about 36″ . Leaves turn a pleasing burgundy color in the fall.
In my garden, I use Rozanne as a plant to tie together my various beds. Since Rozanne likes to bob and weave through her neighbors, and since her blooms are the perfect foil for almost every other plant I can think of, she is useful in many different gardening scenerios. Use Rozanne as a front of the border plant, as a groundcover or even in a container. Because Rozanne is more heat tolerant than many other perennial geraniums she is an ideal choice for edging walkways.

Rozanne is also a favorite of the Perennial Plant Association. Considering Rozanne is relatively free of pests and diseases, that’s no surprise. Rozanne was named the 2008 Perennial Plant of the Year, an honor bestowed on one perennial each year. For a list of other past winners, click here.
My expereince with Rozanne has been that she is somewhat browsed by deer. While they do not ravage the plant like they do some others in my garden, they do seem to like Rozanne well enough to give her a haircut every now and then. Luckily, the foliage grows back quickly and all I seem to miss are a few bloosoms. She survives her bad haircut just like the best of us!
