It’s the 15th of August and that means it’s Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. GBBD is the brainchild of fellow garden blogger Carol of May Dreams Gardens. On the 15th of each month, garden bloggers show off what’s blooming in their respective gardens. It’s a wonderful chance to peek inside some incredible gardens around the world and also get some inspiration for your own garden.
Here in my zone 6 garden located in Stamford, CT, things are finally starting to dry out a bit. After an incredibly wet June and some intermittent but heavy deluges in July, August seems a little more ‘seasonal’ – hot and humid. Here’s a peek inside my garden today…

The burnt orange flowers of Crocosmia 'Emily McKenzie' are like beacons for hummingbirds and a wide variety of pollinators

My Limelight hydrangea is in full bloom right now

Pinky Winky hydrangea flower spike just starting to turn pink

Most of the blooms on my Rose of Sharon are past their prime but these still look OK

Swallowtails love my Agastache 'Blue Fortune'

I think this is my favorite plant combination in my entire garden

This sporadic rebloom on my doublefile viburnum reminds me why this is one of my favorite shrubs, regardless of the time of year

The newest addition to my garden...Lo & Behold dwarf butterfly bush

That hot orange Crocosmia is delish. And I love your chartreuse grasses. I’m glad your garden is finally drying out and you can enjoy a little summer before it’s gone.
Beautiful! Don’t you just love an excuse to stop and take close-up photos of all the blooms in your garden? Chartreuse and purple combos are one of my favorites also.
Pam,
Thanks for stopping by. I also love the color of the golden forest grass. For some reason, they are much more yellow this season. Typically the leaves are more green so I guess I can credit the wet weather with the new color this year.
Joene,
Bloom Day is the perfect excuse to literally stop and smell the roses – before picking off aphids!
Debbie, nice to “meet” you and your garden. It’s always fun to see what other zone sixers are growing (though technically I’m zone 6a, I think!) That Emily sure is a stunner and I bet the bees are having a blast around your hydrangea.
Jen,
Thanks for visiting. I definitely have lots of bees this year but to tell you the truth, they seem to prefer the Agastache to any other plant in my garden.
Thanks for the garden tour
I love burnt-orange and deep yellow/saffron colors in the garden, and things that attract pollenators are that much better. How do they grow best? Water, sun, tending, etc?
