Garden Bloggers Bloom Day – October 2009

Happy Garden Bloogers Bloom Day (GBBD) for October.  For the uninitiated, on the 15th of each month, garden bloggers around the world share what is blooming in their gardens.  Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?  We have Carol over at May Dreams Gardens to thank for this lovely tradition.

Here’s a peek at what’s happening in my garden in CT (z0ne 6) this month…

I think these pentas & crocosmia still think it's summer!

Isn't it strange how these two Anthony Waterer spireas, planted right next to each other, are showing their fall colors so differently?

It's finally time for Beautyberry to take center stage in the garden. Doesn't she look beautiful?

  1. I’m impressed at how well your hydrangea are blooming, considering the deer problem you have. Definitely something to be proud of. And don’t you just love how ornamental grasses sway with the slightest breeze, and how their flower fronds grab the sunlight?

    • Joene,

I am very proud of my paniculata hydrangeas. I almost hate to say this – for fear of jinxing myself – but the deer don’t really seem interested in them They may nip at the branch tips a bit but that’s about it.

Ornamental grasses have been a favorite for years. They add so many wonderful qualities to any garden. I will be dividing some of my larger ones in the spring and planting in among my shrubs borders. I think the vertical accent of the grass will be interesting mixed among the mostly round shrubs.

    • Darla,

Thanks for stopping by. I must admit that in the winter I sometimes fantasize about living in Florida but at this time if the year – when the fall colors are exploding everywhere you look – I can’t imagine living anywhere else!
