Here it is the middle of yet another month and that means it’s time to open my garden and let you peek inside and see what’s happening. Here in southwestern CT (zone 6), there’s not too much blooming but I do have some interesting color from the leaves and berries that are still remaining on some of the deciduous trees and shrubs.

My blue chip butterfly bush is still blooming in mid-November

The purple leaves of this doublefile viburnum really help offset this lone flower.

The faded flowers on this hydrangea still draw your eye.

The purple berries of a Beautyberry bush still shine, even against the dying leaves.

Who needs flowers when you have the brilliant red leaves of Little Henry sweetspire?

The multi-colored leaves of this Kousa dogwood brighten up a dreary corner.
Now that you’ve had a chance to look inside my garden, I hope you’ll head over to May Dreams Gardens to see what’s happening in Carol’s garden. Carol is the mother of Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. If you check out the comments section of her post you’ll see links to scores of other garden bloggers who are ready to share their gardens with you too.
Enjoy!

Beautiful, Debbie! All of those rich reds and purples still, and wow, what delicious color on that kousa dogwood. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed one color up like that.
Happy Bloom Day to you!

I have another kousa planted in a slightly sunnier location than the one in the photo and it’s dropped all its leaves already. It had some interesting color but nothing like it’s sibling in the photo.
Love the hydrangea, even now. Mine looked that way before last weekend’s nighttime temps turned it all brown. And my viburnum leaves finally dropped with this week’s wind. You have more leaves hanging on than I do in my zone 6 south-central CT gardens. It’s always interesting to see how microclimates alter gardening within each zone.
It is funny how our gardens are so different. I have a few other, much younger, doublefile viburnums and their leaves are still green. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the fall foliage in my garden this season.
Lovely to see your hydrangea still has color – mine have been brown and faded for about a month. And that brilliant sweetspire – beautiful.
Monica,
I do love that sweetspire…I bought three of them 1/2 off last month at Valleyview and have been enjoing them every day since. I’m looking forward to seeing them in bloom next summer.
What a lovely post full of gorgeous coloured leaves and autumn flowers, very nice and perfect for this GBBD – November.

ps I would love to dive straight into your header picture.
Tyra,
Thanks so much for stopping by. I must agree with you that the garden is lovely this time of the year…but who knows what it will look like for December’s GBBD.
Don’t you love that hammock? That photo is about a year old so now the plants have really filled in nicely. I spent a lot of time over the summer laying in the hammock watching the bees and butterflies enjoying the agastache I planted nearby. i think I’ll need to rephotograph it next summer and update my header photo.
