Make It Wild! by Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield is the answer to many a parent’s prayers. If you have kids who tend to be more couch potato than avid outdoor explorer, this is the book for you.
Many books on the subject of outdoor crafts and activities are geared towards young children. By the time your child hits double-digits, they’ve outgrown the activities in many craft books. But that’s precisely the age when it becomes harder and harder to keep them amused.
Make It Wild! has sections on beach activities, cold weather activities and everything in between. While some of the ideas are geared towards the younger child, many, like smoke decorating, flaming balloons, pewter casting and building wooden go-karts, are ideal for keeping pre-teens and teens occupied for hours.
Make It Wild! is more than just your typical outdoor fun book. The authors have chosen activities which take the fun to another level and therefore make this book even more useful and extraordinary. I just wish I’d had it a few years ago!
Note: This book was provided to me by the publisher, Frances Lincoln Limited, for the express purpose of reviewing it. Make It Wild! will be available in May 2010.
