It’s July 15th so that means it’s that time of the month to share what’s happening here in my southwestern CT (zone 6) garden. If you’re new to Garden Bloggers Bloom Day (GBBD), there are a free things you should know about it. First, GBBD is the brainchild of Carol over at May Dreams Gardens and second, it’s a wonderful opportunity to see into the gardens of fellow garden bloggers. Here’s a quick peek into my garden today.

Cleome 'White Queen', I love this flower and find it aptly named since it's so regal and powerful in the garden.

Origanum libanoticum (ornamental oregano) and Artemeisa ‘Silver Mound’ look lovely together at the front of the bed
Happy Bloom Day!

Debbie, don’t you just love how white flowers tone done, brighten up, and cool other colors in a mid-summer garden? Beautiful blossoms … love the cleome.
Yes, I think every garden needs some white flowers to help offset all the other colors. And the cleome’s are such a treat this year. I tried growing them from seed last year and they never sprouted so I decided to buy plants this year and I am so glad I did.
I love white flowers in the garden and that cleome is fabulous! Ornamental oregano flowers are beautiful.
Tufagirl, Thanks for stopping by. The ornamental oregano is fairly new to my garden and I am loving it, as are the bees!
Your flowers are lovely, but judging by that first photo, I think your ornamental grasses are even lovelier. Stunning!
Gayle,
That’s so funny, I didn’t even ‘notice’ the grass at first. it’s Miscanthus ‘Morning Light’ and it is a favorite of mine.
My Blackberry Lily is just forming buds in my 4B garden. Yours is gorgeous.
Valerie,
Isn’t there something so special about the blackberry lily flowers? Since I got it from the plant swap I ‘forgot’ about it and when the flower opened I was so happy to see it.
Your cleome is beautiful. I have pink ones in my garden, and I have to say that once they find a spot they like the reseed themselves very happily. So you may find volunteers next year from that white beauty.
Interesting to see how many similarities there are in the gardens of CT and the ones in MO. I must try that ornamental oregano.
I certainly hope my cleome seeds itself. I tried to grow pink ones from seed last year but they struggled. I bought ‘White Queen’ in a 4″ container this year and am thrilled with her performance. I think I’ll try my hand with the seeds again next spring and give them some more TLC than the first batch got.
I couldn’t help noticing that hammock in your header… I’d say you have just the perfect spot for it! Larry
Hi Larry, That hammock gets LOTS of use!
