Donna, I’ve never run into this with pumpkins so it’s quite a surprise for me but apparently it’s not unique. A friend of mine told me the deer would come up to her front porch to eat her pumpkins!
Yes, we all seem to have our ‘favorite’ critters don’t we? I hade two rabbits n my garden in the srping that wer causing all sort of damage but then one got snatched up by a hawk. I haven’t seen hide not ‘hare’ of the other one since.
AHHHH! Caught in the act! When I moved to FL I put out pumpkins the first year. They rotted in the sun in about 2 days. No pumpkins in my yard since. Seems like your squirrel wouldn’t have given them time to rot.
Loret, I’m amazed at how quickly the squirrels found the pumpkin and then how quickly they devoured them.I wonder if they knew Hurricane Sandy was on it’s way and so decided to fill up their tummies and then hunker down!
Seriously….
Right???
some critter was always eating my pumpkins so this year I sprayed it with deer repellent – so far so good!!
An inspired idea, I’m going to try that.
He’s lucky he’s so CUTE.
And getting very fat…within 24 hours he (or he and his friends) have devoured the entire pumpkin!
Voles ate mine on the vine and then deer and squirrels when I put them out…can’t win

Had to visit today, after I saw this title pop up in my reader! Too funny (or maybe not…).
Ah, the title worked!! It’s definitely funny. And the pumpkin is now gone – in less than 24 hours.
The one I placed on my front entryway appeared to rot and split open but I suspect it had some help. Too funny!
Sue, Yes, I imagine it had a little help from some hungry critter.
Ha ha…caught the monster. (here, I reserve “%@*#ing” for rabbits…Monty Python had to visit the SW to come up with “killer rabbits”)

He ate it the whole thing in a day!! That’s one seriously hungry squirrel
I know!
